Are rash guards supposed to be tight? A rash guard should be form fitting and tight when dry. A surf shirt will fit more like a T-shirt when dry. Are rash guards good for swimming? Rash guards and surf shirts are perfect for swimming. They are made from quick drying material and filter out the majority of harmful UV rays.
Will a rash guard keep me warm? Rash guards are not designed with insulation in mind. They provide a thin layer and might lessen the effects of cold water on your skin, but for warmth and insulation we recommend a neoprene surf jacket.
What is UPF? Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) is a rating system that measures the UV protection provided by fabric. A surf shirt with a UPF of 50 only allows 1/50th of the UV radiation falling on the surface of the garment to pass through it. In other words, it blocks 49/50ths or 98% of the UV radiation.
