Questions From Buyers
Do these work?
I own and use this exact Personal Floatation Device (PFD) but have never had the need to inflate it. A PFD is required here in Colorado so I use it when paddleboarding. We've sold hundreds of them and not heard of any problems. Hope that helps. - Adam
Does the Onyx M-16 work like a life jacket?
The Onyx M-16 will float the wearer like a traditional life jacket, but it first requires manual inflation for buoyancy. This life preserver is worn around your waist, and the inflation is powered by a small CO2 charge that inflates the preserver. Simply pull the cord when floatation is needed and your preserver inflates most of the way. You can add air by blowing through the inflation port. There are similar inflatable life preservers that are worn around your neck that are typically used for boating and fishing, but this one is great for standup paddleboarding because it allows you to paddle without obstruction.
When do you inflate the Onyx M-16 Inflatable Life Jacket? How does it work?
The idea behind the Onyx M-16 Inflatable Life Jacket is to wear the preserver around your waist whenever you are on the water. This is less intrusive than a traditional life jacket, but can provide necessary life saving buoyancy when inflated. If you fall in the water, are in danger of drowning, or need to assist someone, simply pull the cord to inflate. Otherwise, it remains on your waist ready for use.
I accidentally inflated my Onyx M-16 Inflatable Life Jacket, now what?
Once inflated, the life preserver can be deflated, repacked, and recharged using another CO2 cartridge. See your owners manual for details.
I'm a great swimmer, do I need this?
Surfboards.com recommends using a life preserver any time you are on the water without personal floatation. In a lot of places it is required, and even when it is not required, it is always a good idea. This belt is a good compromise between safety and comfort.
