The DaKine 12' tie down strap features a heavy duty 1" cam buckle used to secure your surfboard to an existing roof rack. The 12' variety comes with a set of two straps in a small carrying case. The webbing is made from a durable but slightly stretchy polyester blend to ensure a snug and secure fit. The 12' version will secure multiple surfboards, but if you need a longer strap it is also available in a 20' length.

Should I order these straps or Dakine's Baja straps?
Either strap will secure your surfboards to an existing roof rack but you can imagine that there is a lot of pressure where the buckle contacts the surfboard. The Baja version of the strap features a neoprene sleeve for extra protection at that very spot to help minimize any damage. I use the Baja because I thought the additional protection was worth it.
Do I need rack pads to use these straps?
These tie down straps are used to secure surfboards to an existing roof rack. In order to protect your surfboards from pressure dings, we recommend padding your existing roof rack cross bars using either standard rack pads or aero rack pads depending on the shape of your crossbar. To find out the difference between a standard and aero rack pad, simply view the tutorial video at the bottom of the either rack pad product page.
What are the straps made of?
DaKine 12' Tie Down Straps are made from 65% Polyester / 14% Neoprene / 13% Nylon / 7% Spandex / 1% Polyurethane. This blend ensures the perfect amount of give to safely secure your surfboards and avoid damage.
Is this a good tie down strap?
We have been selling the Dakine straps for nearly 20 years and we've never heard of any problems. Combine the tie down with the Dakine 18" Aero Rack Pad (or any of their other rack pads) for the perfect surfboard transportation system.
