Questions From Buyers
How do I pick the right Surfboard leash?
The best advice is to shop for leash based on the length of your surfboard and your skill level. First, get a leash to match the length of your surfboard. A 6' surfboard will use a 6' leash. Then consider your skill level for the thickness of the leash. If you are surfing small waves, there is no need for an extremely thick leash. On the other hand, if you're riding Teahupoo, you need something extremely durable. A thicker leash would be recommended. Finally, find one you like! This black Kainui is a top seller, but it comes in a dozen or more other colors.
How often should I replace my surfboard leash?
If you're a big wave surfer and your leash takes a beating, we recommend inspecting your leash often and replacing it each season. Lower intensity surfers can see a leash last two seasons or more. Regular use along with heat and sunlight will break down even the strongest leash over time. Give your leash a good inspection. Is it breaking or tearing anywhere? Turning brittle or stretching out? Do all of the connections look secure? There is no expiration date on a surfboard leash, but use your best judgement based on the kind of surfing you do. You want to be confident your leash is going to work when you need it to.
Is the Dakine Kainui surfboard leash strong?
Dakine has built a reputation on strong surfboard leashes. The 5/16 in. duracord and marine grade stainless steel swivels will keep your board secured for double to triple overhead swells.
How long should my surfboard leash be?
The most common answer is you should buy a leash the same length as your surfboard. It is fine to be slightly over, but a good rule of thumb is to keep it within a few inches of your surfboard's length.
