These are good racks for the money. They seem to be made on the cheap side, but you get what you pay for and for $100, these racks are a great deal. I used them on my Chevy Tahoe and attached the hooks to the rails (no cross bars) and it worked like a charm. I also used them on a 2000 Honday Civic and found that the hook didn't work as shown in the photos, but I was able to put the hook around the frame extension inside the door and it worked. It did not work for my toneau cover on my Tacoma though because the rack and straps are too short. User's manual does state that they are not recommended for aattaching to fiberglass. I wish I would've gotten the pass thru straps then I could probably make it work. This is a good versatile inexpensive rack but eventually I will look to pay more money and get better quality.

I had a set of these...
I had a set of these for a year now. They have worked great for securing boards. Most of the racks are NOT stainless though and will rust if not maintained. I've always taken them off the vehicle(s) when not in use. I have used these on several vehicles: '08 Chevy Tahoe, 2000 Honda Civic, and an '89 Suzuki Sidekick. They do the job. I would worry about dry rot of the straps and rust of the metal if exposed, but these racks are AWESOME for the money and works on a great variety of autos. Highly recommend if you don't want to pay high $$$ for Yakima racks. I just ordered the other version (gutter style) for my Sidekick. $$$ well spent. Buy now!!!

Can't beat these for the price....
Can't beat these for the price. Drove from Sacramento to Oceanside and back with two boards on top of our 2011 Corolla. They were a bit "squeaky" in the beginning, but eventually "settled" and were mostly quiet. If you're going on a long trip, make sure really cinch things down you "tuck" the straps to keep noise to a minimum. Overall, worked really well and were a great value. Also, kudos to Surfboards, Etc. for getting them to us the day prior to leaving for our trip!

I have a Vanagon Westy with pop top and I bought this rack almost 2.5 years ago. It works perfect. The hooks, or clips, hook under the pop top and I actually switched out the straps with ratchet straps for better hold down. They are easy to install and easy to remove and with the Vanagon you don't have to drill into the pop top as with a Yakima or Thule system.

I may have misread the description but the hooks would not clip onto my Honda Accord, and the straps that pass through would loosen slightly and cause the boards to fly up and down around 40+ mph (only a few inches - nothing severe), they also leaked water into my car when it rained. Other than that the rack worked out well, securely held 4 boards.

Love these. If you take the extra step and wash them after every use they will last much longer. Do not leave on your car for extended periods of time. The straps will dry rot and the rack assembly will rust. Remove and wash after use. For the price they are perfect. I use them for my surf school. I have even had 6 soft tops on them at once.

Just got my racks and I...
Just got my racks and I must say that the hooks do not fit my 2001 BMW; they are too deep and the doors will not close. I am sure glad I asked for the "pass through" straps as this will be my only option. I worry now that 65MPH may be a bit too much for the stability with only the pass through straps.

The surfer hard rack is exactly what I needed. In talking with them on the phone to make sure it would work, now on an older car as well as later on a newer model. I ordered what Surfboards.com. recommended. It was very easy to install, fits tight and looks good.

Could be better. I have this one week and notice the straps are getting fuzzy where you tighten the straps and when it rains water comes in the car. It fits the boards real nice, no vibration, stays tight on the car and easy to put on and remove.

This rack seemed very solid and I would of loved to use it on my car. Unfortunately it did not work on 2012 VW Passat SE because my roof area was just too wide. Otherwise it seemed like a great product that I would recommend.
