What's the difference between a spherical and cylindrical lens?
A spherical lens is molded to focus on a point (your eye) and a cylindrical lens is contoured to focus on a line (the line of your eye). A cylindrical lens is easier to make and therefore less expensive while the spherical lens is more optically correct but is more expensive to make.
